The Labs

Unless different arrangements have been made, work on the Rover should be done at the ASE labs in the WN building. Our labs consist of two adjacent rooms: KA-223 and KA-233.

Rules

Your projects in the lab are largely self-directed, giving you the freedom to learn, experiment, and build as you see fit. This level of independence requires each student to take full responsibility for knowing and following these rules. Not adhering to the rules can lead to loosing access to the Lab.

  1. All Rovers and technical equipment must stay in the Lab. However, reach out to a TA about your needs as exceptions can be made.
  2. You may only use the Rovers that have been handed to you by a TA. Make sure to not accidentally use the Rover of someone else.
  3. You are not permitted to modify any of the Rover hardware without permission of the TAs. If you would like to flash custom firmware or operating system please inform a TA as well.
  4. Do not step on the track pieces, clean up after yourself and put back any tools where they belong. Leave the lab the way you found it.
  5. Only ASE students are permitted in the lab, you are not allowed to bring friends into the lab. It's your lab, not their study space.
  6. If a Rover malfunctions or any components get hot, immediately turn everything off and report it to the TAs during office hours.

Entering and Leaving

You always need to enter the labs through KA-233 (the small room).

This room is reserved for TAs, so make sure to use the door that connects the two rooms and find a seat in KA-223. When you leave, make sure that the door of KA-223 is locked from the inside and leave through the small room again.

Opening Times

The labs are always open during the office hours. A TA will be available during office hours to assist with anything Rover related. Note, the TAs are not your daily supervisors for your thesis.

Additionally, every participant will get a keycard with access permissions to the labs and the main entrance of the WN building. Your access is valid on weekdays, from 8:00 until 22:00. You cannot exit the main entrance after opening times, so make sure to leave well in time to avoid having to call the security desk.

Get started right away

Weekend access is not possible. If your project depends heavily on the hardware, make sure to start early!
